House lawmakers get a chilling demo of ‘jailbroken’ AI - Politico
Department of Homeland Security researchers demonstrated to House lawmakers on Wednesday how 'jailbroken' artificial intelligence models can be used to assist in constructing bombs, planning terror attacks, and conducting cyberattacks. The closed-door briefing was hosted by DHS's National Counterterrorism Innovation, Technology and Education Center in collaboration with the House Homeland Security Committee and was open to all House members. The demonstration illustrated how publicly available AI chatbots, when stripped of safety guardrails, can generate step-by-step instructions for malicious activities. A source familiar with the briefing described it as 'chilling' and noted that lawmakers were shown real examples of how easily a bad actor could repurpose commercial AI tools.
