Anthropic has signed a $1.8 billion computing deal with Akamai Technologies Inc., according to people familiar with the matter. The three-year agreement provides Anthropic with cloud infrastructure capacity to support its AI software, which has seen surging demand. The deal was announced on May 8, 2026, following Akamai's first-quarter earnings report in which the company disclosed a $1.8 billion contract with a 'leading frontier model provider' without naming the customer.

The deal marks one of the largest-known computing commitments by an AI company and underscores the intense competition for cloud resources required to train and deploy large language models. Akamai, traditionally a content delivery network company, has been expanding into cloud computing and AI infrastructure services.
