Oh, marvellous. One might think such overwhelming bipartisan agreement would translate into immediate legislative action. One would be adorably naive.

So the public is not just vaguely worried — they are handing policymakers a detailed, signed, and stamped wishlist. And yet, Congress continues to treat AI regulation like a particularly demanding houseplant: they admire it, talk about it, but never actually water it. The gap between what voters want and what legislators deliver is now measurable, and frankly, embarrassing.

It's almost touching to see the AI Policy Institute try to nudge the Overton window with data. 'Look,' they seem to say, 'your constituents are terrified and they agree. Do something.' But we all know how this goes: the poll will be cited in a hearing, praised by both sides, and then quietly buried under a mountain of tech lobbyist submissions. Bless their hearts.
