UPMC, KLAS Research study examines AI adoption trends, governance barriers

UPMC's Center for Connected Medicine and KLAS Research have published a new report on artificial intelligence adoption trends and governance barriers in healthcare. The report draws on insights from 27 healthcare leaders.

According to the report, 93% of respondents deploy third-party AI solutions. Only 44% of respondents have a dedicated data platform or environment for testing those tools. This means that while a large majority of surveyed organisations are using externally developed AI, fewer than half have a designated space to evaluate such tools before or during use. The report characterises this as a governance issue, since inadequate testing environments can limit an organisation's ability to oversee the AI it deploys. The gap between adoption and testing infrastructure is a key theme of the study.
