NVIDIA releases new and updated tools for physical AI developers - The Robot Report
Ah, perfect timing. Just as the world collectively realised that large language models are glorified autocorrects, NVIDIA has ridden to the rescue with 'physical AI skills' — because what we really need is for our robots to learn faster, all while running on GPUs that cost more than a small house.
The NVIDIA Agent Toolkit, which is definitely not just a rebranded collection of CUDA libraries, is now open-source. Open-source, of course, meaning you can freely download these 'skills' — provided you’ve already sold a kidney for their proprietary hardware. The press release gushes about speeding data generation for robotics, autonomous vehicles, and visual AI, but anyone who’s tried to actually deploy a robot in the wild knows that the bottleneck isn’t data generation — it’s the part where the robot falls over on uneven pavement. The announcement, made at Computex in Taipei, also lacked any benchmarks, which is always reassuring when dealing with systems that might one day drive a car.
Still, Jensen Huang is probably right that we’re all going to need these tools soon, if only because the only way to survive the coming wave of AI-powered automation is to become an AI developer yourself. So by all means, go download the Agent Toolkit. It’s open-source. What could possibly go wrong? Perhaps the robots won't just take our jobs — they'll take our hardware budgets too.
