Nvidia competitor Etched hits $5B valuation, $1B in sales for AI chip
AI chip startup Etched announced it has secured $1 billion in contract orders for its 'frontier inference clusters' and raised $800 million to date, according to a company release.
The $1 billion in orders represent pre-commitments from customers for Etched's inference clusters, which the company describes as optimized for large-scale AI deployment. Etched's total funding of $800 million includes recent rounds from prominent venture capital firms. The company claims its architecture offers significant performance and cost advantages over Nvidia's offerings for inference tasks, though it has yet to ship products at scale.
Etched's success will depend on its ability to manufacture chips at scale and deliver on performance claims, a challenge that has felled many previous Nvidia competitors.
