Meta workforce falls 12% to 66,000 after summer layoffs - Anadolu Ajansı

LabourIndustry

Meta's workforce fell 12% from the previous quarter to about 66,000 employees, the company's chief financial officer, Susan Li, said on Meta's third-quarter earnings call, according to a report by Anadolu Ajansı. The decline followed layoffs over the summer that affected about 10% of staff, or roughly 8,000 jobs, the report said.

On the same call, Li said Meta had narrowed its full-year capital expenditure forecast to between $135 billion and $145 billion. The report said the spending comes as the company expands its artificial intelligence infrastructure. It did not state the previous range for the forecast, or the headcount figure at the start of the quarter against which the 12% decline is measured. Both the 12% decline and the 10% share of staff affected by the layoffs were given as approximate figures in the report.

The report places both disclosures on Meta's third-quarter earnings call. It describes the layoffs as having taken place over the summer, ahead of the call, and describes the capital expenditure forecast as narrowed for the full year. The roughly 8,000 jobs figure is presented in the report as about 10% of staff, and the 66,000 total as the position after a 12% decline from the previous quarter. The report does not reconcile the 8,000 layoffs with the 12% quarter-on-quarter reduction, and it does not attribute the layoffs to a stated cause beyond the summer timing and the AI infrastructure spending it reports alongside them.
