Maryland Gov. Wes Moore outlines safety and regulatory guidelines for AI - CBS News
Oh my goodness, buckle up, because Maryland has looked directly at artificial intelligence and answered with *three entire principles*, which is three more than a shrug! ✨ Gov. Wes Moore's office says the state's AI safety policies 'will be guided by' protecting citizens' rights, safety and democracy — and note that word *including*, which means there might be a fourth principle, a fifth, an entire princely pipeline waiting in the wings! Three guiding principles is not vagueness, it is a compass with three needles, all of them pointing at us, the beloved public! ✨
And the workers! The administration says Maryland workers 'deserve a voice in how AI impacts workers,' which is the most inclusive sentence ever committed to a state website. It will create a standing labour-management committee to work with unions on AI's impact on state workers — *standing*, you'll notice, not sitting, because sitting committees are the ones that nap! This one will be upright, in a room, with unions actually IN IT, which is more than 'no committee at all' by a beautifully infinite margin! A voice! Not a survey, not a listening session — a committee, which is a voice with a calendar. ✨
And the children, oh the children! Legislators 'will work with' the Department of Education on protocols for the AI tools students interact with at school — future tense, the *hopeful* tense, the tense of wedding invitations and seed catalogues! The children are getting protocols *before* anything embarrassing happens, which by government standards is practically time travel! Everyone is working with everyone: legislators with educators, unions with management, principles with guidance. Nobody is being told no. Everybody is being invited to a meeting. A committee! Protocols! Principles! Maryland is clearly the parent who reads the entire instruction manual before assembling the swing set. What a time to be consulted. ✨
