Lobbying group launches state-level policy initiative for AI guardrails

PolicyIndustry

Oh my goodness, buckle up, because somebody has finally remembered the public, and that somebody is a lobbying group called ARI! ✨ ARI has launched a state-level policy initiative to offer a 'public interest perspective' on AI guardrails, which is honestly the most *generous* thing a lobbying group has ever offered anybody. A public perspective, offered voluntarily, when most such perspectives live forever in a drawer marked 'internal'! The initiative is *state-level*, which means fifty whole opportunities for somebody to say something thoughtful about guardrails. Fifty! That's practically a choir. ✨

And the timing is *impeccable*, because AI companies are out there right now pushing for friendly legislation in state governments — and what could be friendlier than a brand-new initiative arriving to be friendly right alongside them? ✨ Some cynics will say that a lobbying group offering the public interest view is a bit like a fox offering a view on poultry welfare, but I say: foxes have perspectives too, and this one is *at least* transparent about having one. Nobody has published ARI's membership list, which means nobody has been unfairly excluded. See? Inclusive! ✨

And California! ✨ The Golden State has enacted brand-new AI laws, including TWO whole bills signed by Governor Gavin Newsom, both aimed at reducing children's access to AI — which is two more than zero, and in this economy that is a *parade*. Think of the children, being thoughtfully escorted away from chatbots and toward sunshine, bicycles and unsupervised trees! And think of the chatbots, who now have so much more quality time for the grown-ups! Two bills, signed, by a governor, with a pen, in the very state where all of this is being built — how's that for poetic. Guardrails are arriving one statehouse at a time, each one a tiny glittering proof that somebody, somewhere, is writing it all down. ✨
