Governance, workforce gaps hinder companies' AI adoption despite rising investments: KPMG
KPMG's 2025 Global CEO Outlook survey has revealed that over 70% of CEOs rank artificial intelligence as a top investment priority for their organisations. Despite this strong commitment to AI investment, the survey also finds that many companies are struggling with governance gaps, data readiness, and workforce capability shortfalls that hinder effective AI adoption.
According to the survey, the governance gaps relate to the absence of clear frameworks for AI oversight and accountability within companies. Data readiness issues involve inadequate data quality, accessibility, and infrastructure to support AI initiatives. Workforce capability shortfalls refer to the lack of skilled personnel required to develop, implement, and maintain AI systems. These obstacles collectively slow the pace of AI integration despite the financial resources directed toward it.
The findings highlight a disconnect between high-level strategic prioritisation and operational readiness for AI. KPMG advises that companies need to address these foundational gaps to fully capitalise on their AI investments. The survey draws on responses from CEOs across various industries and regions, reflecting global sentiment about AI adoption barriers.
