Financial Services’ AI Dangers Highlighted by Regulator’s Review - Insurance Journal
The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) published a review on July 7, 2026, highlighting risks of artificial intelligence in financial services. The review found that more than a quarter of UK consumers trust AI tools such as ChatGPT for financial advice, with limited awareness of existing consumer protections.
The FCA stated it was the first regulator globally to study the impact of AI on financial services. The review examined current AI usage across the sector, identifying risks including misinformation, lack of transparency, and potential for consumer harm.
The FCA said it would engage with industry and other regulators to address these risks. The review did not introduce new regulations but aimed to inform future policy. The regulator emphasized the need for appropriate safeguards as AI use in financial services grows.
