Exclusive: Google deepens Thinking Machines Lab ties with new multi-billion-dollar deal - TechCrunch
Google has signed a new multi-billion-dollar agreement with Thinking Machines Lab, the AI startup founded by former OpenAI executive Mira Murati. The deal expands Thinking Machines Lab's use of Google Cloud's AI infrastructure and includes access to systems powered by Nvidia's latest GB300 chips. The agreement is valued in the single-digit billions of dollars.
Thinking Machines Lab has operated in near-stealth mode since its founding last year and has not yet publicly demonstrated any working AI models. The startup will gain access to Google's latest AI systems built on Nvidia's new GB300 architecture, which Google also uses for its Gemini models. The deal represents a significant infrastructure commitment from Google to support Murati's venture.
This agreement follows recent talent movements in the AI sector, including Core Automation's recruitment of researchers from Anthropic and Google DeepMind. Murati left OpenAI after reported disagreements with CEO Sam Altman over safety priorities. The partnership provides Thinking Machines Lab with substantial computational resources while expanding Google Cloud's footprint in the competitive AI infrastructure market.
