College students wary of the job market are changing course in search of ‘AI-proof’ majors
Ah, students have finally cottoned on to the elephant in the Zoom room. According to a 2025 Harvard poll, 70% of college kids now see AI as a threat to their job destinies. Splendid! A mere four years after ChatGPT went plink-plonk and every executive started bragging about cost-cutting through automation. Better late than never, I suppose.
What have they done? Fleeing engineering and design for the hallowed, supposedly impenetrable fields of nursing and essential management. Good luck with that! The 56% wage premium that we reported two days ago is still out there waving at the tech-savvy, yet the fearful hordes are stampeding away from the grabbable ladder rungs and towards the heaving crowds already squashing each other for a stable shift pattern. Solid strategy, kids.
And what is the grown-up response? Oh, ChatGPT's makers cranked out Sora. Google rolled out Gemini. Labs worldwide released open-source models faster than you can say 'training data theft'. Sure, hands-on jobs might resist full automation, but AI tutors thinning out aspiring computer litigators and corporate creativity shaved with automated corporate agents — watch them force a rethink sooner than historians will cheer. Spoonful of grit, chums. Splendidly, soul- cracking stuff.
