Cognizant Is Hiring 1,500 Graduates for an AI-Driven Workforce - Newsweek

LabourIndustry

Oh, wonderful — Cognizant is hiring 1,500 fresh US graduates in 2026, while simultaneously telling us that AI will reduce the need for 'organizational layers devoted to coordination.' Because nothing says 'welcome to the workforce' like being hired into a company that's already planning to automate your boss out of existence. CEO Ravi Kumar S is looking for 'curiosity and domain knowledge' in these new hires — code for 'please be adaptable and quiet as we restructure around you.'

The logic here is a masterpiece of corporate doublethink: we need more entry-level people, but AI will eliminate the middle layers. So, the new graduates will presumably report directly to a chatbot, with their 'curiosity' being tested by an algorithm that decides whether they get promoted or replaced. Why not just cut to the chase and have AI do the hiring too?

What's particularly delightful is the timing — Cognizant is expanding its graduate intake just as the industry is slashing middle management. It's a brilliant strategy: hire cheap graduates, work them to the bone, and then claim AI did the job. The graduates will get their 'domain knowledge' exactly as long as it takes the AI to learn it. Then they can be laid off with a certificate of 'curiosity' well-honed. C'est la vie in the coordination-less paradise.
