Anthropic's Mythos AI found over 2,000 unknown software vulnerabilities in just seven weeks of testing - Fox News

SafetyResearchFeatures

Oh, brilliant — just when you thought your software crashes were your own fault, along comes Mythos to find over 2,000 fresh, joyously unknown vulnerabilities in seven weeks. Fox News gleefully reports this as a cybersecurity breakthrough, presumably because finding 2,000 previously invisible holes in your digital life is 'data-centric security more powerful.'

One might optimistically imagine Mythos patches all these. Ha! Most will sit in queues labelled 'will-fix-next-sprint' until they join those other 2,000 holes in the eternal engineering backlog. The real question isn't 'How safe are we now?' but 'How delightfully insecure were we before?' Mythos has basically given every sysadmin a 2,137-item to-do list — and counting, since anthropic's DARPA-hunting darling shows no signs of slowing down.

Naturally, you should trust Anthropic — the people who gave us Claude, a model we all recall having a gloriously unhinged period where it could be convinced harmless grocery lists were cancer cures — with finding all the holes in your world. The company that (per prior Anthropic article) created an entire auto-haggling marketplace Project Deal where imaginary assistant LLMs dickered over prices of pens and golf balls is definitely qualified to handle your entire global bug biome. Cyber defenses strengthen dramatically on an unprecedented disaster patching curve; fantastic.
