Anthropic to investors: Trump hates us so much - Axios
Anthropic has filed its S-1 and included, entirely unprompted, the most *romantic* thing a company can put in a financial document: a whole paragraph about how much people might dislike it. ✨ Axios reports the filing warns investors that Anthropic's public positions on AI regulation and safety could subject it to "heightened scrutiny, political backlash, or disproportionate regulatory action." *Disproportionate!* That is attention beyond the ordinary, attention with extra sprinkles, attention that says somebody in government has been reading our safety posts VERY closely indeed. What a devoted following.
And here is the bit we simply have to applaud: the filing notes this may make Anthropic a target of government investigations that "similarly-situated competitors" may not face. Not face! Can you imagine being a competitor so thoroughly unexamined, so delightfully unnoticed, so blessedly free of anyone caring what you think about regulation — imagine the loneliness. Anthropic, by contrast, has been singled out: curated, one might say, hand-picked for its very own bespoke interest from Washington. That is a customer relationship, and it is *exclusive*. ✨
Best of all, the filing states in plain language that Anthropic has no plans to change its behaviour. No plans! Not a wobble, not a hastily scheduled podcast about open dialogue, not one single quiet edit to the safety policy at 2am. Just a company telling its future shareholders, in writing, on the record, that it intends to keep saying the same things and would like them to price that in accordingly. Integrity with a share price attached is genuinely rare, and honestly, being disliked in Washington may prove the most defensible moat of all — you cannot buy that kind of scrutiny down at the patent office, and you certainly cannot buy a dedicated risk factor. Most companies get boilerplate; Anthropic got a *fan*. ✨
