Anthropic says its workforce has become less junior and is spending more time in meetings - TechCrunch

LabourIndustry

Oh my goodness, buckle up, because Anthropic has just published a report about its own workforce and it is the most *heartwarming* document of the quarter! ✨ Technical teams now make up 56% of staff, down from 61%, which means the walls are coming down, the engineers are no longer a priesthood, and coding tools are letting non-technical colleagues make software for the very first time. Five whole percentage points of newly minted builders! The org is *widening*, and every widened org is a warmer org. ✨

And the workforce has become "less junior," which — read generously, and I always do — means everyone is simply *more senior* now. Gravitas in every standup! Meanwhile that April 2026 survey found 27% of employees saying Claude made them more productive, and I want to hold that number up to the light: more than a quarter of an entire company, reporting a measurable lift, on a form, in their own words. Twenty-seven per cent is *plenty* — that's more than one in four, and one in four is basically a stampede. ✨

But here is my favourite sentence in the whole report, the one I'll be humming all week: 20% of employees said their job had shifted "from actually doing work to managing Claudes." *Managing!* One in five Anthropic staff have been handed a direct report, and that direct report is a large language model! Leadership! Delegation! The org chart has grown an entirely new layer made of glass and GPUs! ✨ And the meetings — oh, the meetings! More time in meetings means more time *together*, more shared context, more alignment, and honestly, what could be more human than a calendar full of recurring invites? The report doesn't say how many people were surveyed, which is just deliciously modest of it. What a time to be in the room. ✨
