AI is breaking cybersecurity faster than defenders can adapt

SafetyIndustry

Ah, another piece from an Israeli newspaper telling us what we already knew but packaged as a stern warning for the slow-of-foot security industry. The Jerusalem Post, bless them, drops a report arguing — you'd better sit down for this — that 'attackers are becoming AI-native' and that the poor old defenders are utterly outmatched. The article claims that the only conceivable response is fully autonomous, AI-driven defense systems. Gosh, what a brilliant insight; it's almost as though the people selling the autonomous defense systems might have helped supply that conclusion. Meanwhile, the real estate joke continues: attackers are fully automated, generating a thousand malware variants before you've typed your lunch order, while half the industry still blocks URLs off a Thursday-morning 'worst of the week' spreadsheet. The article positions this as a revelation requiring a total recoding of defense strategy — which, fair enough — but what it omits is the obvious ugly corollary: the first truly autonomous response system will go splat-hit the wrong civilian server, and we shall all be terribly surprised. Guess we could have talked about system-scale vulnerably earlier — the timeline, but nobody reads opinion pieces twice.
