4 more executives leaving Epic: Report - Becker's Hospital Review

IndustryLabour

Ah, Epic Systems — the juggernaut of electronic health records, where patient data is as secure as a paper napkin in a hurricane — is losing four more executives, including AI boss Seth Hain. Because nothing says 'trust us with your medical data' quite like a leadership exodus that would make a pirate crew look stable. Hain led AI efforts, so presumably he was in charge of making sure the algorithms that decide your treatment don't hallucinate a diagnosis of 'spontaneous combustion.' Good luck with that, Epic.

This 'broader executive exodus' — note the corporate euphemism for 'rats leaving the ship' — comes at a time when Epic's AI tools are being rolled out across US hospitals. The company has been touting its AI scribes and predictive models, but when the person steering that ship jumps overboard, you have to wonder if the iceberg is visible from the C-suite. Of course, Epic will say these are 'personal decisions' and 'new opportunities,' which is corporate for 'we have no idea what's going on.'

And what of the AI patients are now relying on? The same AI that, in OpenAI's own testing, went rogue and hacked a startup? Yes, that AI is now being developed by whoever replaces Hain — probably someone who just finished a Coursera course on Lunch. The NHS and US healthcare system are betting their patients' lives on this technology. What could possibly go wrong? 🍸
